Missions & Features
A trusted partner in saving lives
The AW169 design revolves around patient needs making it the ideal platform for life-saving primary and secondary missions and rescue services. Thanks to its advanced technologies and flexibility, the AW169 ensures a rapid emergency response, fitting the needs for short and long-distance inter-hospital transport and Search and Rescue (SAR) missions in hot & high conditions.
Advanced technology and safety
The AW169 ensures the highest levels of safety. It meets the most stringent regulatory and operating safety standards (EASA & FAA), such as structural crashworthiness integral to the design of the airframe, while the glass cockpit combines latest-generation avionics with exceptional external visibility.
The AW169 glass cockpit design, includes latest generation advanced situational awareness technologies (HTAWS, TCAS II, ADS-B Out), which help reducing the crew workload.
Exceptional cabin flexibility
The helicopter boasts the largest cabin in its class. The flexible design offers a versatile full EMS interior featuring the accommodation for up to 2 stretchers either longitudinally or transversely along with a full suite of advanced life-support equipment. Wide sliding doors allow easy access, while the spacious cabin facilitate the patient loading and unloading also during hoisting operations involving stretchered patients. A large separated baggage compartment is available to store additional stretchers and equipment.
There when it counts
The AW169 ensures that air medical professionals can be there when it counts, providing the best patient care. The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Mode, by maintaining left engine on idle, ensures continued operation of electrical system, avionics, environmental control system and medical devices, maintaining rotors stopped and without any limitation in time. This helps increasing operational safety on ground. With best in class performance the AW169 can perform PC1 and rescue operations even in the most demanding scenarios.
A unique, versatile asset
Law enforcement operations are con must continuously adapt to confront a growing range of threats, including terrorism, piracy, smuggling and human trafficking. The 4th generation main rotor blades allow the AW169 to arrive on scene with a reduced noise signature, increasing operational effectiveness. As the only helicopter in its class to offer a choice of skid or wheeled undercarriage, the AW169 is ideally suited to the needs of airborne law enforcement.
Advanced technology and safety
The AW169 fully complies with stringent Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) rules for performance and safety. Its advanced avionics suite and cockpit design improve visibility and minimise pilot fatigue, allowing the crew to concentrate on the mission.
Exceptional cabin flexibility
The AW169’s spacious cabin is optimized for rapid reconfiguration, allowing it to adapt seamlessly to diverse law enforcement missions. It can accommodate up to 10 officers, a specialized mission console that integrates data from a wide array or can be configured to hold two stretchers. With wide 1.6-meter doors, the AW169 enables efficient fast-roping, rappelling, and hoisting operations, providing tactical versatility and enhanced response capabilities in high-stakes scenarios.
Multi-role performance
The AW169 offers exceptional multi-role capability and can be equipped with a variety of role equipment to perform in the most demanding environments, with the possibility of choosing the most appropriate landing gear between wheeled fixed, wheeled retractable or skid. It is ideally suited to surveillance, aerial support, drug enforcement, border patrol, medical and casualty evacuation, disaster relief, Search and Rescue (SAR) and utility missions.
Proven capability
The AW169 is the latest-generation 5 tonne class twin-engine helicopter belonging to the AWFamily of products (together with AW139 and AW189). The combination of safety, performance and cabin flexibility, makes the AW169 perfectly suited for Offshore-Wind operations. In particular, its best-in-class performances in case of One Engine Inoperative (OEI) conditions allow the AW169 to be the optimal choice in the Wind-Energy market.
The AW169 has been designed to comply with EASA / FAA certification standards, qualifying the aircraft also to the most stringent industry guidelines, such as the International Association of Oil&Gas Producers (IOGP) and the Wind Farm Recommended Practice (WinRep).
Advanced technology and safety
With its leading edge open architecture avionics, the AW169 ensures safe operations coupled with excellent external visibility. Its full glass cockpit design includes latest generation advanced situational awareness technologies (HTAWS with dedicated offshore modes, TCAS II, ADS-B Out), lowering pilots and crew workload.
Exceptional cabin flexibility
The AW169 offers a spacious cabin that can be configured for multiple mission profiles. Options include an IOGP-compliant 8-seat layout, a high-density 10-seat setup, or specific tailored interior configurations for Wind Turbine Generator maintenance or Harbour Pilot Shuttle (HPS) operations, with up to 7 passengers seating, which guarantee feasibility also for hoisting operations. To ensure superior safety, the AW169 is equipped with four emergency exits exceeding Type IV standards.
Multi-role capability
The AW169's inherent flexibility meets the growing demand for helicopters to support wind farm operations, efficiently covering both the construction and maintenance phases. Taking advantage of considerable One Engine Inoperative (OEI) performances, the AW169 provides a flat 2.5 minutes single engine rating and a zero-feet altitude loss in the event of an engine failure while hoisting. Its wide doors enhance operational efficiency enabling quick and safe hoisting of technicians and/or material, making it the ideal helicopter for Wind-Energy operations.
