Helicopter Distinctive Simulation Capabilities

Rotorsim

Rotorsim, the joint venture equally owned by Leonardo Helicopters and CAE, currently operates in three different Countries (Italy, USA and UK), through seven owned training devices.

The Italian operations are carried out from our Training Academy in Sesto Calende, through five different Full Flight Simulators (FFS): 2 AW139s, 1 AW169, 1 AW189 (Oil & Gas configuration) and 1 A109.

The latter one can be customized by means of a Ro-Ro mothership, rotating three A109 cockpits (A109 Power, A109 LUHS and A109 NEXUS).

The cockpit modules can also be used in an EASA qualified FNPT Level III MMCC/FTD Level III Training Device.

CAE North East Training Centre and Bristow Training Academy offer dedicated training solutions respectively through the AW139 FFS located in New Jersey and the AW189 FFS in Search & Rescue configuration at Aberdeen.

Safety

Safety represents Rotorsim’s ultimate goal and drives its commitment to delivering the highest quality training services by leveraging on Level D certified simulators, which are fully developed in accordance with the OEM approved aircraft data, collected through extensive flight campaigns.

The Rotorsim AW169 and AW189 Level D simulators are the only ones on the market including the OEM approved data package.

Rotorsim Capabilities

AW109 FTD - AW109 FFS

AW109 FTD
The AW109 FTD (Simulator Docking Station combined with cockpit and direct projection visual system) is JAA certified Level 3 per JAR-FSTD-H - FAA level 6.

AW109 FFS
The Rotorsim AW109 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) is based on the CAE Sim XXI™ platform and is deployed using a “Roll-on – Roll-off” (Ro-Ro) system. It features a common main structure with three different cockpits covering the Power, Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Nexus variants of the AW109. The Power variant of this FFS (AW109E) operates under a Level-D level of qualification by ENAC and FAA.

AW139 FFS Number 1 & 2

The Rotorsim AW139 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) is based on the CAE Sim XXI™ platform and is deployed using a “Roll-on – Roll-off” (Ro-Ro) concept. It entered in service in 2007, in the AgustaWestland ‘A. Marchetti’ Training Academy in Sesto Calende, Italy.

AW139 FFS Number 3

In March 2013 the Rotorsim 3000 Series AW139 FFS entered operation within the AgustaWestland ‘A. Marchetti’ Training Academy in Sesto Calende, Italy. Jointly developed by CAE and AgustaWestland, this training device is based on the S3000 simulator platform introduced by CAE. It operates under a Level D qualification as per both EASA CS-FSTD(H) and FAA 14 CFR Part 60 standards for Full Flight Simulators.

The Rotorsim AW139 S3000 FFS enhances the traditional “Level D fidelity” providing training for commercial and military operators. It delivers Type rating, systems management and enhanced mission training.

AW189 FFS

The Rotorsim 3000 Series AW189 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) entered service in April 2014 at the AgustaWestland Training Academy ‘A. Marchetti’ in Sesto Calende, Italy. Jointly developed by AgustaWestland and CAE, this new training device is based on the CAE 3000 Series of helicopter flight and mission simulators. The device has formally achieved the Level D qualification both as per EASA CS-FSTD(H) and as per FAA AC 120-63 standard for Flight Simulation Training Devices.

It features an optimized design for the offshore configuration of the AW189 offering high fidelity training capabilities.

AW169 FDT

The AW169 Flight Training Device (FTD), designed and built by AgustaWestland and operated by Rotorsim, is consider to be a Key milestone in the provision of AW169 training services ahead of aircraft deliveries. The AW169 FTD has been certified by a joint European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA ) and Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) team to FTD Level 2 as per CS-FSTD(H), the certification specification for Helicopter Flight Simulation Training Devices. It has been the first training device to be certified following the EASA Operational Suitability Data (OSD) process.

NH90 JNTP

The Level D NH90 full mission flight trainer (FMFT), which includes a virtual sensor trainer for the rear crew sensor operators, has been the first NH90 FMFT simulator for the naval variant of the nh90 helicopter.

The NH90 JNTP simulator features a dual Troop Transport Helicopter (TTH) and NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) role configuration. The TTH T1 variant is identical in cockpit configuration and performance to the German Army simulator and is designed to be in compliance with JAR-STD-1H Level C. The NFH N2 variant is identical in cockpit configuration and performance to Dutch Navy NH90 and is designed to be in compliance with JAR-STD-1H Level D.
