Helicopter operators face constant demands to increase efficiency and cut costs. To meet this challenge, Leonardo has introduced the AWFamily of advanced helicopters: the AW169, AW139 and AW189. Each boasts high performance flight characteristics and safety features, as well as a common cockpit layout and design philosophy. The result is real cost savings in training, maintenance and support.
Missions & Features
Common external design
The distinctive shape of the AW169, AW139 and AW189 derives from a common streamlined aerodynamic design, with retractable wheeled landing gear to reduce drag and enhance cruise speed. High main and tail rotors increase safety on the ground, while reduced external dimensions minimise the total footprint.
Common cockpit concept
The AW169, AW139 and AW189 benefit from cockpit commonality, helping pilots to feel instantly at home. With excellent external visibility, the AWFamily shares an ergonomically designed full digital glass cockpit, where information is presented in a similar way. The common layout of relevant flight data increases pilot familiarity and minimises workload, enabling the crew to focus on the mission.
Common performance and safety
AWFamily helicopters share the same high standards of performance and safety. Each is designed to meet the latest Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 29 certification standards. The helicopters deliver excellent performance in the most demanding operating conditions and in the harshest environments. Flying procedures and operational approaches are similar, regardless of the type being flown.
Common cabin design
AWFamily helicopters benefit from the same cabin design philosophy. Spacious interiors and constant cabin height offer an unobstructed and roomy environment, maximising working space and passenger comfort. A flat ceiling and floor allow efficient use of the full area and facilitate rapid role reconfiguration for greater mission flexibility.
