NH90

Mission-ready today and tomorrow

Saving lives, protecting heroes

The NH90 is the focal point of Europe’s largest helicopter programme, fulfilling the need for a versatile military asset that excels in both battlefield and maritime roles. The twin-engine, multi-mission NH90 is the most modern and versatile helicopter in its class, developed under the NHIndustries joint venture involving Leonardo Helicopters, Airbus Helicopters and Fokker.

Missions & Features

Versatile and manoeuvrable

The Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) version is designed to be highly manoeuvrable and survivable to meet the demands of a wide spectrum of battlefield missions. It is optimised for roles including tactical transport (16 to 20 troops), special operations, Search and Rescue (SAR), medical evacuation (with 12 stretchers), counterterrorism, Command and Control (C2), parachuting, VVIP transport, and disaster relief.

State-of-the-art technology

The NH90 is equipped with a full glass cockpit and advanced fly-by-wire flight controls. A state-of-the-art integrated communication and navigation suite, along with mission systems and data fusion increase the speed and accuracy of data analysis and reduce pilot workload.

Inherent safety and survivability

Safety and survivability are built in to the NH90. The TTH version has low acoustic, radar, and infrared signatures and is equipped with a night vision system – Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and helmet-mounted sight and display. Other features include weather radar, digital map, obstacle warning system, armoured pilot seats, defensive aids suite and countermeasures.

Maximum cabin flexibility

The NH90’s spacious, unobstructed cabin gives operators maximum flexibility. It features sliding doors and can be adapted to meet a multitude of applications. As an option, the TTH can be equipped with a rear-loading ramp to accommodate a light transport vehicle and to provide easy access for troops, personnel and casualties.

Meeting any naval mission

The NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) version is a highly flexible asset that can adapt to today’s dynamic maritime environment. It excels in roles including Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW). The NH90 also performs maritime surveillance, anti-piracy and counterterrorism, intelligence gathering, vertical replenishment, Search and Rescue (SAR), medical evacuation, troop transport, disaster relief and special operations.

State-of-the-art technology

The NH90 features a full glass cockpit and advanced fly-by-wire flight controls. The NFH version can carry out missions with a crew of three thanks to the integrated flight control system and mission avionics which reduce crew workload. State-of-the-art mission systems and data fusion increase the speed and accuracy of data analysis.

Inherent safety and survivability

The NH90 is built to be safe and survivable. Features include a crashworthy fuselage and ballistic-tolerant design, self-sealing tanks and redundancy of all main systems, armour protection and advanced self-protection. The combination of harpoon deck-lock, castoring nosewheel, automatic blade/tail folding system and proven deck handling system ensure safe ship operations in the most demanding conditions, both day and night.

Maximum cabin flexibility

The NFH version of the NH90 can perform missions 24/7 with a crew limited to one pilot, a tactical coordinator in the cockpit and one sensor operator at the cabin workstation, managing a comprehensive suite of mission equipment that includes sonar and sonobuoy dispenser. The aircraft can also be configured with two pilots and two tactical operators in the cabin.

Deployable worldwide

The NH90 is designed to be deployed anywhere in the world. It is aero-transportable with folding blades and tail and can operate in known continuous icing conditions. With amphibious capability, five hours’ endurance and NATO interoperability, the helicopter enables freedom of operation in the most demanding environments.
