AW169M

Next Generation Multirole

Today’s ultra-demanding military missions require a helicopter capable of performing in the most extreme environments. The AW169M – the military version of the AW169 - is the new light intermediate twin-engine helicopter with the class-leading performance and multi-role capability to operate both day and night in austere, urban and challenging ‘hot and high’ conditions.

Missions & Features

Commonality and efficiency

The AW169M provides the versatility, performance and exceptional handling capability that make it the ideal training helicopter. Offering operators the benefits of training commonality via a single platform across multiple missions, it enhances efficiency while enabling crews to familiarise themselves with the characteristics of the helicopter and to make a seamless transition to the advanced, multi-role AW169M.

Advanced avionics and systems

Advanced avionics and systems enhance the AW169M’s multi-role capabilities. The single/dual-pilot VFR/IFR NVG-compatible integrated glass cockpit reduces pilot workload and maximises external visibility, allowing the crew to concentrate on the mission. Powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210A engines, with FADEC, combined with the advanced rotor system provide superior ‘hot and high’ performance.

Spacious and flexible cabin

The unobstructed cabin, which is the largest in its class, can be easily converted to respond to a wide range of operational requirements. Large sliding doors, which can support the installation of up to two machine guns, enable rapid entry and egress to and from the cabin. Pilots benefit from a latest-generation, open-architecture avionics suite, including a fully digital glass cockpit and unprecedented external visibility, providing advanced tactical and situational awareness.

Safety and performance

The AW169M offers best-in-class levels of safety including a main gearbox with a 33-minute certified dry-run capability, dual electrical and hydraulic systems, self-sealing crashworthy fuel tank, and crashworthy seating. The highest power-to-weight ratio in its class provides unparalleled performance in the most demanding environments.

Mission versatility

The AW169M is built to meet the requirements of the most challenging battlefield missions. It can successfully perform a wide variety of roles including troop transport, logistics support, surveillance and reconnaissance, Special Forces operations, command and control, medical and casualty evacuation, Search and Rescue (SAR) and personnel recovery. Its compact footprint support operations in confined areas.

Advanced avionics and systems

Advanced avionics and systems enhance the AW169M’s multi-role capabilities. The single/dual-pilot VFR/IFR NVG-compatible integrated glass cockpit reduces pilot workload and maximises external visibility, allowing the crew to concentrate on the mission. Powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210A1 engines, with FADEC, combined with the advanced rotor system provide superior ‘hot and high’ performance.

Spacious and flexible cabin

The unobstructed cabin, which is the largest in its class, can carry up to 10 troops and can be converted to accommodate two stretchers. Large sliding doors enable rapid entry and egress, as well as hoisting and rappelling/fast roping missions. The flexible interior space can be rapidly reconfigured with mission and role equipment including insertion/extraction equipment, crew-served weapons and mission console.

Battlefield ready

The AW169M can be customised with a wide range of equipment, sensor and weapon systems to provide outstanding mission flexibility for battlefield operations. Options include military communications, radar, Electro-Optic/Infra-Red (EO/IR) device, searchlight, loudspeakers, rescue hoist and cargo hook. Internal weapons include a 12.7 mm machine gun or two pintle-mounted 7.62 mm machine guns. External weapon options include machine guns, guided or unguided rockets and air-to-ground missiles.

Safety and survivability

The AW169M features a comprehensive range of safety and survivability features including an optional advanced scalable Integrated Defensive Aids Suite (IDAS). The main gearbox has a 33-minute certified dry-run capability alongside optional ballistic protection for cockpit and cabin, while self-sealing tanks aid high levels of survivability and crashworthiness.
